About Our ADHD Parent Evidence Packs

Helping parents prepare the information professionals need

If you’re noticing behaviours or difficulties that could be linked to ADHD, it can be hard to know what information matters, what to record and what to take to school, SENCO or healthcare appointments.

That is exactly what our ADHD Parent Evidence Packs are designed to help with.

Better preparation can make parts of the ADHD process faster and more efficient

There is good evidence behind this approach.

The ADHD Assessment Quality Assurance Standard for Children and Teenagers states that pre-assessment questionnaires containing detailed information and specific real-life examples can reduce the time required for the clinical interview. It also says relevant background information, school information and reports should ideally be gathered and reviewed before assessment.

NHS services also make clear that the quality of information provided at referral matters. For example, NHS ADHD referral guidance in Kent warns that incomplete referrals may be rejected or delayed, while Bedfordshire and Luton children's services state that a neurodevelopmental referral can be rejected when there is not enough information to make a decision.

This is where NeuroInsight Health can help.

Our packs help parents gather and organise useful information before it is needed, so you can give schools and healthcare professionals a clearer picture of what is happening.

We cannot move your child up an NHS waiting list or guarantee a faster diagnosis. But good preparation can help reduce avoidable delays caused by missing information, make appointments more efficient and make better use of valuable professional time.

What do the Evidence Packs actually do?

Our packs turn everyday observations into clear, organised evidence.

Instead of arriving at a meeting and trying to remember months or years of examples, you can gradually record things such as:

  • behaviours and difficulties you are noticing
  • specific real-life examples
  • how often things happen
  • situations that make things better or harder
  • the effect on everyday life
  • what happens at home
  • what happens at school
  • feedback from teachers
  • support that has already been tried
  • questions you want to ask
  • changes and patterns over time

This gives you something much more useful than simply saying:

“My child struggles to concentrate.”

You may instead be able to explain:

“During homework, they regularly leave the table several times within 20 minutes, lose track of the task and need repeated reminders to continue.”

Specific examples help professionals understand what everyday life actually looks like.

Why is information from home AND school important?

ADHD is not diagnosed from one checklist or one short appointment.

A proper assessment involves gathering information from multiple sources and looking at a child's difficulties and their impact across important areas of life.

The quality standard specifically recommends obtaining information from educational settings, such as teacher questionnaires, school reports and information from a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).

That is why our packs place so much emphasis on collecting information from both home and school.

It helps build a clearer overall picture.

How does it work?

We have deliberately kept the process simple.

1. NOTICE

Use our guidance and checklists to identify behaviours, difficulties and patterns that may be worth recording.

2. RECORD

Write down real examples as they happen rather than trying to remember everything months later.

3. COMPARE

Look at what is happening across home, school and other situations.

4. TRACK

Where appropriate, follow patterns over days or weeks to see what happens repeatedly and what may make things better or worse.

5. PREPARE

Use our dedicated preparation sheets before speaking to your child's school, SENCO, GP or another professional involved in your local ADHD pathway.

6. SHARE

Turn pages of notes into clear summaries containing the most important information.

Notice → Record → Compare → Track → Prepare → Share

How could this help make the process more efficient?

ADHD assessment takes considerable professional time. NHS England's Independent ADHD Taskforce reports that assessment and diagnosis can take around 2.5 hours of clinic time to reach a diagnosis.

Some of that time necessarily involves asking detailed questions and gathering information.

Our aim is to help families arrive already prepared with many of those details organised.

That could mean:

  • clearer conversations at the beginning of the process
  • relevant examples already written down
  • school and home information easier to compare
  • less reliance on memory during appointments
  • important information being less likely to be forgotten
  • professionals having clearer information to consider
  • fewer avoidable requests for information that could have been gathered earlier
  • better use of limited appointment time

The children's ADHD quality standard specifically states that good qualitative pre-assessment information can reduce the time required for the clinical interview.

So preparation isn't simply about feeling more organised. Good information can make a practical difference to how efficiently parts of the referral and assessment process work.

Our Evidence Packs do not replace official forms

Different NHS services and areas of the UK use different referral pathways and may require their own questionnaires, school reports or referral forms.

Our Evidence Packs are designed to help you prepare and organise the information that may be needed. They do not replace any official NHS, school or clinician forms you are asked to complete.

In fact, Bedfordshire and Luton children's services explain that getting enough developmental and educational information at the point of referral helps referrals to be triaged accurately and efficiently.

That principle is at the heart of what we do.

Why we created NeuroInsight Health

With very large numbers of children and young people now waiting for ADHD assessment in England, families can spend a long time waiting for the next step.

Waiting does not mean you have to do nothing.

You can use that time to:

observe what is happening, collect useful examples, speak with school, record patterns, organise information and prepare for future appointments.

When that important conversation or assessment eventually arrives, you are not starting from scratch.

You already have a clearer picture of your child's experiences and the information you want to share.

NeuroInsight Health — Observe. Record. Organise. Prepare.

NeuroInsight Health resources support information gathering, organisation and preparation. They do not diagnose ADHD, guarantee acceptance of a referral, replace official referral documentation, move someone ahead on an NHS waiting list or guarantee a diagnosis. ADHD assessment and diagnosis must be carried out by appropriately qualified professionals.
